Dear Coffee, My Love

Dear coffee, thank you, my love, for being there for me every day as I indulge in my daily caffeine fix. Not only did you make my groggy mornings better, a morning brew a day can give my skin or my body, for that matter, a natural boost too. Plus, the demand for you has led to the rise in cute, Instagrammable cafes popping up everywhere, and baristas who have become my comrades, as they pass me a cup of you each morning. I simply cannot live with you in my life. Studies have also shown that coffee is a source of nutrients and antioxidants that can benefit the skin, scalp and hair. So how can I not fall in love with you?

Makes for Great Exfoliation

Regular exfoliation is key to sloughing away the dry dead skin cells to reveal fresh, real glow for your skin and your body. Your body’s cell turnover rate slows down as you age. In order to remove the dead skin cells on your skin’s surface, regular exfoliation is the way to go. And coffee’s natural properties are just the key to rebuffing all those pesky lines and dry skin that you see on your skin and body. Consider the following coffee scrub recipes that will get you smooth, glowing skin that everyone wants and envies.

Coffee Face Scrub

Ingredients you will need include: Three tablespoons of coffee grounds; one tablespoon of natural oil (olive oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil or almond oil) and one tablespoon of brown sugar. Mix all the dry ingredients together before adding the oil in. If you prefer a granulated scrub consistency, add more brown sugar. Massage the scrub onto your face in gentle, circular motions. Wash off your face as usual.

Coffee Body Scrub

Ingredient you will need include: ½ cup of ground coffee, ½ cup of coconut palm sugar, ¼ cup of coconut oil and one teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mix all the dry ingredients well. Melt the coconut oil to room temperature, before adding to the mixed dry ingredients. Mix everything well. Massage the scrub onto your body in circular motions. Wash off your body as usual.

Wakes Up Your Eyes

Too many late nights and they are showing on your eyes? Not only will a cup of joe perk up your spirits, you can also lighten your dark eye circles with a coffee eye mask. The caffeine acts to reduce swelling and puffiness, while the antioxidants in coffee fight off the free radicals that age your skin.

Coffee Eye Mask

Ingredients you will need include: One egg white and two teaspoons of coffee grounds. Beat the mixture of egg white and coffee grounds with a fork until frothy. Apply the mask around and under the eye area, and let it dry for 10 minutes. Wash off your face as usual.

Coffee Eye Gel

Ingredients you will need include: Two tablespoons of pure aloe vera gel, one teaspoon of pure vitamin E oil and one teaspoon of coffee oil. Mix the gel and oils together and whip well with a spoon until well mixed. Store in a jar and tap the mixture around and under your eye area once in the morning and once before bedtime. For a cooling sensation, chill the jar of eye gel before using. The cold eye gel will further shrink the blood vessels that can reduce the puffiness.

Reduces Cellulite

The only dimples you want to see should be on your cheeks, and not the dimpled appearance of cellulite. Cellulite occurs when the skin has a dimpled and lumpy appearance, due to the fat deposits. As it turns out, caffeine in coffee has the ability to break down fat. This means the less fat you have, the less chance there is for cellulite to appear on your skin.

Coffee Cellulite Scrub

Ingredients you will need include: One cup of coffee grounds, six tablespoons of coconut oil and three tablespoons of sea salt. Mix all the dry ingredients well. Melt the coconut oil before adding to the mixed dry ingredients. Mix everything well. Massage the scrub onto areas with cellulite in circular motions. Wash off your body as usual.

For The Hair

Caffeine has been proven to increase the reproduction of hair follicles and speed up the hair growth cycle. The antioxidants that coffee possesses help you achieve healthy and lustrous locks. So, coffee not only can help you battle your hair loss problem, you can enjoy hair growth and also improve the texture of your hair if you drink coffee regularly, or use products with caffeine in the ingredient mix.

Coffee Hair Mask

Ingredients you will need include: One tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of olive oil and two teaspoons of coffee powder. Mix all the ingredients well into a smooth paste. Apply the paste onto your hair and relax for 20 minutes. Wash off your hair as usual. You will find that with regular use, your hair will become softer and shinier.
